Angono lies in the province of Rizal, east of Metro Manila, on the northern shore of Laguna de Bay. From above, the town is a strip of dense streets between the lake and higher ground to the east, where the land climbs toward the hills. The main road along the shore works as a spine, with narrow side streets branching off toward the water and the slopes.
Angono is widely called the Art Capital of the Philippines. Two National Artists lived here, the painter Carlos Botong Francisco and the composer Lucio San Pedro, and the town now has many galleries and studios. In the hills are the Angono Petroglyphs, rock engravings counted among the oldest known artworks in the country. Each November the Higantes Festival fills the streets with giant papier-mâché figures.
