Arroyo Seco lies in the province of Santa Fe, south of Rosario, on the western bank of the Paraná River. Its map follows the classic Argentine pattern: a regular grid of square blocks laid across flat land, ending abruptly at the river, where the Paraná opens out into a broad channel with islands on the far side.
The town takes its name from a stream, the arroyo, that runs along its edge and reaches the Paraná here. Road and rail links to Rosario run through the area, and the town forms part of the wider Rosario metropolitan region, surrounded by the farmland of the pampas.
