Bayt Lāhyā lies in the far north of the Gaza Strip, a short distance from the Mediterranean coast. On a map, the built-up area is surrounded by what has long been farmland, with plots divided by small roads and paths. To the west, sand dunes lie between the town and the sea, and the street pattern loosens as it approaches them.
The town has been known for agriculture, especially for its strawberries, grown in the sandy soil and once sold widely, and for citrus and other orchards. Its name is often linked to an old Aramaic word, and the town has a long settled history. The land around it has shaped its character more than any single building.
