Belovodskoye lies in the Chuy Valley of northern Kyrgyzstan, west of Bishkek. The valley floor here is flat and fertile and crossed by irrigation channels and farm roads. To the south, the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range rises sharply. From above, the settlement stretches out along its main roads, with long, straight streets and deep household plots typical of the valley.
The town was founded in the nineteenth century by settlers from the Russian Empire. Its regular layout reflects that period of planned agricultural settlement. Today it is one of the larger communities in the Chuy Region, a mix of town and farming village, and it has close ties to the capital.
