Cẩm Lệ is an urban district in the southwest of Da Nang, a short distance inland from the city centre and the coast. On a map it is defined by water. The Cẩm Lệ River and its neighbouring channels run through the district before feeding into the Hàn, dividing the land into separate banks joined by road bridges.
Much of the district has changed within the last two decades. New neighbourhoods laid out in long straight blocks sit alongside older lanes and patches of farmland, and major roads link it with the national highway and with the beaches to the east. The result is a map that mixes careful planning with the looser pattern of earlier villages.
