Chaihe is a town in Heilongjiang, China's northernmost province. It sits in the hilly, forested country of the Mudanjiang area. The land here is folded into ridges and valleys, and the town occupies lower ground where there is room to build. From above, its streets form a modest cluster, with wooded slopes rising around them.
As in many towns in this part of the northeast, transport follows the valleys. Roads and railway lines run along the flatter ground, linking the town with the larger centres of the region.
