Valley setting
The town sits on lower ground between hills. On the map, this gives the street network a lengthened form that follows the valley rather than spreading evenly.

El mapa
Chaoyang Map Poster & Print
This Chaoyang lies in Jilin Province in northeastern China, in the hilly country between the Changbai Mountains and the plains of the northeast. It shares its name with several other places in China, including a district in Beijing, but it is a much smaller settlement. The landscape here is shaped by rolling hills, farmland and rivers that run between them.
From above, the town's layout follows the valley. The main streets run parallel to the lowland, and the blocks of housing, shops and public buildings fill the flatter ground. Where the land begins to rise, the streets thin out and give way to fields and wooded slopes. The pattern is compact and practical, with a clear urban core.
A Chaoyang map poster shows that balance between a dense grid and the open land around it. The town's shape is defined by its terrain, and the roads leading out to the villages and neighbouring towns form long lines across the countryside. In black and white, it has the calm feel of a small valley town rather than a sprawling city.

Compact grid
The centre is organised as a tight grid of blocks. It contrasts with the irregular edges where the streets meet fields and slopes.
Roads outward
A handful of roads leave the town and cross the countryside. They are the strongest lines on the outer parts of the poster and connect Chaoyang to the region.
