Ch’iko is a town in the Sidama Region of southern Ethiopia, in the highland country of the south. The land around it is hilly and intensively farmed. On a map the town appears as a modest network of streets and tracks that follow the ground rather than a strict plan, with homesteads and gardens pressing close on every side.
Sidama is best known internationally for its coffee, grown on small plots across these hills, often alongside enset, the false banana plant that is a staple food in the region.
