Chilanga lies just south of Lusaka in Zambia, along the main road that runs towards Kafue and the south. From above, the town stretches along this corridor. Residential areas branch off to either side, industrial sites sit close to the road, and farmland and bush open up beyond the built-up edges.
Chilanga is long associated with cement production. Its cement works have supplied building material across Zambia for decades, and the plant is one of the town's most recognisable sites. The area is also home to Munda Wanga, an environmental park and botanical garden visited by families from Lusaka.
