Cortlandt Manor is a hamlet in the Town of Cortlandt, in the northern part of Westchester County, New York, and wraps around the city of Peekskill. The name goes back to the colonial-era Van Cortlandt manor, a large land grant along the Hudson. On a map it is suburban and rural at once: no single centre, but a spread of residential roads following the contours of wooded hills.
The street pattern here is shaped by terrain. Roads bend around ridges and valleys, and cul-de-sacs branch off into forested slopes. Small lakes and reservoirs appear as solid shapes among the lines, and major routes cut through on longer, smoother curves. The Hudson River lies close to the west, and the highlands beyond it hint at the larger landscape.
