El mapa
Deal Map Poster & Print
Deal stretches along the east Kent coast between Sandwich and Dover, facing the English Channel. The shore organises its map: a long, straight seafront with parallel streets just behind it, and a grid of residential roads spreading inland. The old town, centred on Middle Street, keeps a tight network of narrow lanes and alleys close to the beach.
Deal Castle was built for Henry VIII in the late 1530s. Its rosette plan of curved bastions is striking even from above, and Walmer Castle lies just to the south. Offshore, the sheltered anchorage called the Downs once filled with sailing ships waiting for fair winds, protected by the Goodwin Sands further out.
A Deal map poster makes a clean, strong composition: the straight line of the shore, the pier reaching into the water, and the rounded castle set against the grid of streets. It is a good subject for anyone who likes coastal towns with a long maritime past.

Seafront and pier
The long, straight shingle shore runs the length of the town, and the pier projects from it into the Channel as a single sharp line.
Middle Street lanes
Behind the beach, the old town keeps a close grid of narrow streets and alleys. This dense pattern contrasts with the open sea.
