Dipalpur lies in Okara District in the Punjab province of Pakistan, on the flat, irrigated plain between the Ravi and Sutlej rivers. On the map, the town has a compact, closely packed centre, with narrow streets that suggest its age, and newer neighbourhoods spreading outward along the main roads. Around it, canals and field boundaries draw a fine rectilinear pattern across the land.
Dipalpur is one of the older towns of the Punjab, with a history reaching back many centuries, and remains of its old fortifications can still be traced around the historic core. It was an important administrative centre during the Delhi Sultanate. Today it is a market town for the surrounding farmland, which produces wheat, cotton and other crops.
