El mapa
Dobropillya Map Poster & Print
Dobropillya is a town in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, in the open, gently rolling steppe of the Donbas coalfield. It grew in the twentieth century around coal mines, and its layout shows that origin. Straight, planned streets and apartment blocks sit alongside older districts of private houses, with mine sites, rail spurs and industrial land on the edges.
The name translates roughly as good field, a reference to the farmland that surrounded the settlement before the mines. Coal has shaped the town's economy and landscape for generations, and the conical spoil heaps typical of the Donbas remain part of the view. Since 2022 the town has been heavily affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
A Dobropillya map poster records the town's shape as a planned mining settlement: the regular central grid, the looser residential edges, the rail lines serving the pits and the wide steppe beyond. For people who grew up here or have had to leave, the map preserves the streets as they know them.

Mines and rail spurs
Industrial sites on the edges of town are linked by railway branches that once carried coal away. They add angular shapes and curving tracks around the residential areas.
Steppe surroundings
Beyond the town, fields and open steppe stretch in every direction, crossed by only a few roads. This open space frames the town and shows its isolation in the landscape.
