Dover is a city in south-eastern New Hampshire, often cited as the oldest permanent settlement in the state, with origins in 1623. On a map, the Cocheco River winds through the centre, and the downtown grew around its falls, where water power once drove the town's textile mills.
The large brick Cocheco Mills still line the river in the centre, many now converted to offices and apartments. The Amtrak Downeaster stops at Dover on its route between Boston and Maine, and the rail line cuts through the town close to the downtown streets.
