Dunhou lies in central Jiangxi, in the hilly country of the Gan River basin near the city of Ji'an. From above, the landscape is a patchwork of rice fields, ponds and low wooded hills, and the town is a compact cluster where roads meet. Its streets are practical rather than grand. They follow the terrain and the main routes that link the town to nearby settlements.
Little has been widely written about Dunhou beyond its role as a local centre for the surrounding farmland, and its map is best read on those terms.
