Duramē sits in the green highlands of south-central Ethiopia and serves as the administrative centre of the Kembata area. From above, the town is compact. A main road carries most of the traffic, and a loose net of smaller streets spreads out from it toward fields and homesteads. Beyond the last buildings the map breaks into footpaths and small plots, the pattern of a densely farmed upland.
The most striking presence on the map is the mountain. Hambaricho rises near the town, and its slopes turn the surrounding lines into curves as tracks bend around the higher ground. The mountain is closely tied to Kembata identity and history, and on a poster its mass gives the plainer street pattern of the centre a natural edge.
