Central lagoon
A shallow, tidal lagoon with mangrove margins occupies much of the island's interior, giving the circular outline an irregular, softer inner edge.

El mapa
Europa Island Map Poster & Print
Europa Island lies in the southern Mozambique Channel, between Madagascar and the African mainland, and belongs to France as one of the Scattered Islands of the Indian Ocean. It is a low coral island, roughly round, with a fringing reef around its shore and, at its centre, a shallow tidal lagoon lined with mangroves.
There is no permanent civilian population. A small French presence, including a weather station, has long been maintained there, and a straight airstrip crosses part of the island, the most obvious man-made line on the map. Otherwise the land is dry scrub and low woodland, protected as a nature reserve, and the shore is a mix of beach and rock.
The island is known for its wildlife, particularly the green turtles that come ashore to nest on its beaches and its large colonies of seabirds. A Europa Island map poster is an unusual thing: an almost empty circle of land, a few tracks, the airstrip and the soft shape of the lagoon, standing alone in a wide field of ocean.

The airstrip
A single straight runway crosses the land, the clearest human mark on an otherwise untouched island and its practical link to the outside world.
Fringing reef
A reef closely follows the shoreline all the way around, so the coast appears as a clean, continuous ring against the open water of the channel.

Un mapa amb significat
Europa suits people who love remote places, who have served or worked there, or who study the wildlife of the Indian Ocean. Its simple round form, with the lagoon at its heart, has the quality of an emblem as much as a map.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The digital download costs $9 and includes six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a PDF.
