Farmington sits in Davis County, on the Wasatch Front north of Salt Lake City. Its shape is set by geography. The mountains rise sharply to the east, the marshes and mudflats of the Great Salt Lake spread to the west, and the town fills the narrow strip between them. Major highways and rail lines run north to south through this corridor, and residential streets fan out on the slopes above.
The town is the seat of Davis County and is widely known as the home of Lagoon, a long-running amusement park that is a regional landmark. On a map, the park's footprint sits beside the freeway corridor. Neighbourhoods of curving suburban streets and cul-de-sacs climb toward the foothills, with canyon roads leading up into the range.
