Fastiv Map Poster
Fastiv lies in Kyiv Oblast, a short distance south-west of the capital, and it is best known as one of Ukraine's significant railway junctions. On a map the tracks are hard to miss. Several lines converge on the town and pull its streets into long, angled blocks. The rail yard forms a broad band through the middle of the built-up area.
A small river, the Unava, runs through the town and pools into ponds along its course, adding soft curves to an otherwise linear plan. The town has a long past: in the late seventeenth century it was a Cossack stronghold. Its wooden Church of the Intercession, from the eighteenth century, is one of the region's notable surviving timber churches.

The river crosses the town and widens into ponds. It softens the rigid rail geometry with curved water and green banks.
Low-rise residential grid
Around the centre, small blocks of houses and gardens form a fine, even texture. It fills the space between the heavier lines of track.
