Forchheim is in Upper Franconia, between Bamberg and Erlangen, and its map is organised by water. The Regnitz river and the Main-Danube Canal run next to each other through the valley on the western side of town. They form parallel lines of water, with bridges, locks and meadows in between. To the east, the ground rises towards the hills and valleys of Franconian Switzerland, and the Wiesent comes down from there to meet the Regnitz.
The historic centre is compact, and traces of its old fortifications still shape the street pattern. The town has a long royal history, and the Kaiserpfalz, a medieval palace complex, stands in the old town. Timber-framed houses, including the well-known town hall, line the market area. Small streams and channels cross the centre, so there is water in the heart of town as well as on its edge.
A Forchheim map poster brings these layers together: the river and canal corridor, the dense old town, and the newer districts spreading toward the hills. Forchheim is also known for the Annafest, held each summer in a wooded hillside full of beer cellars just outside the centre. On the map, that area shows as a patch of forest paths above the streets.

Kellerwald slopes
East of the centre, a wooded hillside full of beer cellars hosts the yearly Annafest. On the map it appears as a green area crossed by small paths.
