Fūman is a town in Gilan Province, in northern Iran, west of Rasht on the green, humid lowland that lies between the Caspian Sea and the Alborz and Talysh ranges. The terrain here is almost flat, and the map shows a compact town surrounded by an expanse of rice paddies, divided by irrigation channels and small roads.
The town is well known across Iran for its koloocheh, a soft cookie filled with walnut and sugar, and many travellers stop here on the way to Masuleh, the terraced mountain village to the southwest. Roads leave Fūman in several directions, one of them climbing into the hills towards that village, and rivers from the mountains cross the plain nearby.
