Gombe is a town in Uganda's Central Region, in the gently rolling country west of Kampala. The landscape here is a sequence of low, rounded hills separated by wetland valleys. On a map the town occupies higher ground, and its streets spread along ridges, while the valleys below remain largely open.
The countryside around Gombe is farmed in small plots, with banana, coffee and other crops grown on the slopes. Narrow roads and tracks link scattered homesteads to the town centre and to larger routes toward Kampala and other regional towns. The wetlands in the valleys appear as soft, open areas between the ridges.
