Emborio harbour
The island's one real town wraps around a single bay. On the map, its lanes form a tight crescent at the water's edge, which is where the ferries arrive from Rhodes.

El mapa
Halki Map Poster & Print
Halki is a small island in the Dodecanese, lying just off the west coast of Rhodes. It is rocky and dry, with an irregular outline of bays and headlands. Most of the land is open hillside, crossed by only a few roads. From above, the island reads mostly as terrain and coastline, with very little built fabric on it.
Nearly all of the island's life is centred on Emborio, the harbour village. Its houses curve around a sheltered bay, and many of them are painted neoclassical mansions from the island's sponge-diving era. Inland, a road leads uphill to Chorio, the old village that was once the island's main settlement, below a castle built by the Knights of St John on the ridge.
A Halki map poster is a study in economy. You get a single cluster of lanes wrapped around a harbour, one road heading inland, and a coastline of small inlets doing the rest. Because the island is so small, the full outline fits comfortably on the page. The whole shape can be read at a glance, including the islets scattered offshore.

The road to Chorio
A single road climbs inland from the harbour to the old village of Chorio and the castle ridge above it. It is one of the few lines crossing the island's interior.
Broken coastline
Halki's shoreline is a run of small coves, rocky points and islets. With so few streets to draw, the coastline becomes the main detail of the poster.

Per què Halki
Un mapa amb significat
People who find their way to Halki tend to remember its harbour at dusk and its quiet, car-light days. The island is small enough that its whole shape fits on one page, which makes the print feel complete, like holding the entire place rather than a fragment of it.
Add your own title and a subtitle, perhaps the summer you stayed or a family name, and edit the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital files are unwatermarked, 300 DPI and print-ready. You can also order a matte print, framed or unframed.
