Hopkinsville is the seat of Christian County in western Kentucky, set in the rolling farm country of the Pennyrile region. On a map, the downtown forms a compact, regular grid beside the winding Little River, while main roads radiate outward to the north, south and west. A bypass curves around the town, and neighbourhoods and commercial strips spread along the routes leaving the centre.
The town has some unusual claims to fame. In 1955 a family near the community of Kelly reported an encounter with strange creatures, an episode still marked by the annual Little Green Men Days festival. In 2017 Hopkinsville was close to the point of greatest eclipse of the total solar eclipse, and the psychic Edgar Cayce was born nearby. Fort Campbell lies to the south.
