Intich’o is a town in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, set in the rugged highland country that characterises much of the region. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets on uneven terrain, shaped by the slopes and gullies around it rather than by any planned grid. Roads leave in several directions, winding between hills toward neighbouring towns and villages.
The surrounding landscape is agricultural and heavily worked, with small fields, footpaths and seasonal streams covering the slopes. In a monochrome print these features create a fine, intricate texture around the town, while the denser street pattern of the centre provides a clear point of focus. The terrain gives even the simplest roads a characteristic, meandering line.
