Kafr Takhārīm lies in the uplands of Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria. It is rolling limestone country, and the map shows streets fitted to the slopes rather than laid on a strict grid. The old centre is dense and irregular. Newer streets reach outwards along the roads, and the terrain beyond is marked by the fine lines of terraces and field boundaries.
The area is known for its olive groves, which cover much of the surrounding hillsides and have long supported local families through the harvest and olive oil production. Country roads link the town with nearby villages and with larger centres in the governorate, curving along the contours of the hills.
