Kemer occupies a narrow strip of flat land on the western coast of Antalya Province, where the Taurus Mountains come down almost to the sea. From above, the town runs along the shore in a long band: hotels and streets hug the waterline, while the contour of the mountains closes in sharply behind them, leaving little room to spread inland.
The coastline is the defining line on the map. A sheltered marina breaks the curve of the shore, beaches run north and south, and streams come down from the mountains to the sea. South along the coast lie the ruins of ancient Phaselis, and inland the land climbs quickly towards the peaks of the Beydağları range.
A Kemer map poster shows this tension between sea and slope in plain black and white. The dense town, the smooth arc of the coast and the empty mountainside above it make a well-balanced composition, which is often a reminder of long summer holidays on the Turkish Riviera.
