Lenbe, also written Limbé, lies in the Nord department of Haiti, in a fertile valley southwest of Cap-Haïtien. Mountains rise on several sides, and the town sits on the flatter ground along the Limbé River, where the main national road passes on its way north to the coast. Slopes and water give the map a natural frame.
From above, the centre is a tight arrangement of streets along the road, with houses spreading across the valley floor and up the lower hillsides. Beyond the town, small plots and tracks are scattered across the countryside, and the river's curves become the strongest natural line on the page.
