Lihe is a town in the northeastern part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the upper Yangtze region. The terrain here is steep and folded, and it shapes almost everything visible on a map. Streets bend with the slopes, buildings gather where the ground levels out, and valleys carry both water and roads.
From above, the settlement looks compact and irregular. Rather than a grid, you see short streets stepping around the hillsides, with longer roads following valley floors toward neighbouring towns. Terraced fields and wooded slopes surround the built area. They leave wide open space around a tight core that has grown within the limits of the land.
