Lo Prado sits on the western side of Santiago, one of the many communes that together make up the Chilean capital. From above it reads as a dense, even weave of short residential streets. Blocks are small and closely packed, with few open gaps, so the drawing looks almost like fine fabric stretched between the larger avenues that mark its edges.
The commune was carved out as its own municipality in the early 1980s, and its layout shows that planned, postwar growth. Streets run in repeated patterns instead of following any old village core. Metro Line 5 crosses the area underground along a main east–west avenue, and the stations give the line a quiet rhythm on the page, linking Lo Prado to the centre of Santiago.
