El mapa
Luoyang Map Poster & Print
Luoyang lies in western Henan, on a plain along the Luo River, from which it takes its name. It is one of China's great historic capitals, by tradition the seat of thirteen dynasties. The river flows from west to east through the middle of today's city, and on a map it forms a broad band dividing the old town to the north from the newer districts to the south.
The old town keeps a compact, roughly square footprint of narrow streets, while the modern areas spread out in a disciplined grid, echoing the planning of the Sui and Tang capital that once stood here. Archaeological sites, including remains of that capital, appear as open areas within the urban fabric, and wide avenues run straight toward the hills to the south.
South of the city, the Yi River passes through a narrow gap between two hills, where the Longmen Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are carved into the limestone cliffs. To the east stands the White Horse Temple, traditionally considered the first Buddhist temple in China. A Luoyang map poster brings together river, grid and ancient landmarks in one frame.

Longmen Grottoes
South of the city, the Yi River cuts through a narrow gap in the hills, where thousands of Buddhist statues are carved into the limestone cliffs on either side.
Planned grid
The newer districts follow a clear pattern of straight avenues and large blocks, a modern echo of the carefully planned Sui and Tang capital that once occupied this ground.
