Madhurampur Dehri is part of the Dehri urban area in Bihar's Rohtas district, on the west bank of the Son River. The Son is wide here, with a broad sandy bed that changes a lot between the dry season and the monsoon. On a map it is the most dominant feature, a thick band of pale ground and water running along one edge of the town.
Dehri has long been a crossing point. A railway bridge carries the main line over the Son, and the Grand Trunk Road passes through the area. Nearby, the Son canal system, begun in the nineteenth century, sends channels west across the farmland. Seen from above, these straight engineered lines contrast with the looser street pattern of the town itself.
