Mamaroneck is a village on the Long Island Sound shore of Westchester County, New York. Its shape is set by the water. A sheltered harbour cuts deep into the land, the Mamaroneck River flows into it, and the shoreline breaks into coves, points and small peninsulas lined with marinas and waterfront homes.
Inland, the village follows a pattern familiar across southern Westchester. The Boston Post Road runs through as the main commercial street, and the Metro-North New Haven Line crosses the village with its station close to the centre. Residential streets fill the land between them, becoming more irregular and leafy toward the water and the northern edges.
