Meshgīn Shahr lies in Ardabil Province, on the northern side of Mount Sabalan, one of Iran's highest peaks. The town spreads across sloping ground, and its streets reflect that position. Main roads follow the valley, while side streets climb towards the higher parts of town in a looser, more irregular pattern.
Around the town, the land opens into farmland and grazing ground, typical of the high plateau in this region. Streams descending from the mountain cross the area, and their valleys appear as soft curves in the drawing.
