El mapa
Naugatuck Map Poster & Print
Naugatuck is a borough in New Haven County, Connecticut, set in the valley of the Naugatuck River. From above, the town follows the river north to south, with the central streets on the flat land by the water and residential roads climbing the wooded hills to the east and west. Route 8 runs through the valley alongside the river.
The borough grew as an industrial town and became a centre of the American rubber industry in the nineteenth century, connected to Charles Goodyear and the companies that followed. Its town green is framed by a notable group of civic buildings designed by the architects McKim, Mead and White.
A Naugatuck map poster shows the classic structure of a New England valley town. The river and highway create a strong vertical line, the compact centre sits near the green and the hillside streets branch outward in irregular patterns. It makes a balanced portrait composition.

The town green
The green sits at the heart of the centre, surrounded by civic buildings. It appears as a small open space among the denser downtown streets.
Hillside neighbourhoods
Residential streets climb the valley sides in winding patterns. They spread the town outward from the river into the wooded hills.
