New Yekepa is in Nimba County, in northern Liberia, close to the Nimba mountains where Liberia meets Guinea and Côte d'Ivoire. The Yekepa area grew around iron-ore mining in the Nimba range. A railway carries ore from here to the port of Buchanan on the coast, and the area's history is closely tied to that line.
The map shows a town shaped by terrain. Streets follow the lower slopes instead of forming a strict grid, and the built area gives way to dense forest on the higher ground. Mining roads, the rail corridor and open cleared areas add strong, deliberate lines to a landscape that is otherwise green and irregular.
