Newport Pagnell is a market town in the borough of Milton Keynes, set where the River Ouzel joins the River Great Ouse. The old town sits on a tongue of land between the two rivers, and the map shows its long high street running along that ridge with water on either side.
The town has two well-known links to motoring. Aston Martin built cars here for decades, and its works on Tickford Street remain part of the brand's history. Newport Pagnell services, on the M1 just west of the town, opened in 1960 as one of the first motorway service areas in Britain.
