Njombe is a town in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania and the capital of the region of the same name, created in 2012. It sits at high altitude, and the area is known for its cool, often windy climate. That makes it quite different from the warmer lowlands most visitors associate with the country.
The map shows a town laid over uneven ground. A main road runs through the centre, and smaller streets branch off along ridges and down toward shallow valleys. Built-up areas quickly thin out into farmland and plantations, and the streets follow the landscape rather than a strict grid.
