BR-262 corridor
The federal highway runs past the town as a long, straight line, and many of the main streets connect to it, which gives the layout a clear anchor.

El mapa
Nova Serrana Map Poster & Print
Nova Serrana sits in the rolling hill country of central-western Minas Gerais, west of Belo Horizonte, and is crossed by the BR-262 highway. From above, the town looks like a young city that grew quickly. A dense core of short blocks spreads out in several directions, and newer neighbourhoods follow the ridges and valleys where the ground allows.
The town is widely known as Brazil's capital of sports shoes. Hundreds of factories and small workshops make trainers for the national market. The industry shaped the map: many streets hold small production buildings mixed in with housing, and the town kept expanding into the surrounding countryside as the industry grew.
A Nova Serrana map poster shows that growth in outline. It has a tight centre, grids that change direction from one neighbourhood to the next, and the straight line of the highway cutting along one side. There are no famous monuments here. The appeal is the plain honesty of a working town drawn in clean black lines.

Shifting grids
Neighbourhoods built at different times meet at slight angles, so the map shows several small grids fitting together across the hilly ground.
Workshop blocks
Across much of the town, compact blocks mix homes and small shoe factories, which produces an even, finely divided street texture.
