Ridge roads
The main roads follow the tops of ridges and the curves of the hills. They give the township a flowing structure that the smaller streets hang from.

El mapa
Ntuzuma Map Poster & Print
Ntuzuma is a township in KwaZulu-Natal, part of the wider eThekwini area north of central Durban. It sits among other townships in a stretch of hilly country, and on a map the terrain is obvious. The roads curve along ridges and dip into valleys, and there are very few straight lines.
The neighbourhoods are divided into sections, each a close pattern of small plots and short streets fitted onto the slopes. Main roads link Ntuzuma with neighbouring areas and the routes into Durban, and the smaller streets branch off them into dense residential clusters. Open ground along streams and steep slopes breaks up the built areas.
A Ntuzuma map poster shows the shape of a community that many people know from the inside. From above, the winding main roads and closely set streets create a rich, organic pattern. It looks nothing like a planned grid, and in black and white that complexity becomes the image itself.

Dense sections
Residential sections pack small plots and short lanes closely together. On the map they appear as finely textured areas between the larger roads.
Valley open space
Streams and steeper slopes leave narrow strips of open land between neighbourhoods. These quieter bands separate the built areas and trace the shape of the terrain.
