Octeville is a town on the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, on the high ground west and south of Cherbourg. It merged with Cherbourg in 2000 and is now part of the larger commune of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, but it keeps its own name and character as a district.
The map shows residential streets climbing the slopes above the Divette valley and the harbour, with larger estates on the plateau and older roads following the lie of the land. An Octeville map poster places those streets in relation to Cherbourg's port and the English Channel coast to the north.
Beyond the built area, the countryside turns into bocage, the Norman landscape of small fields bordered by hedgerows and narrow lanes. On paper, it gives the edges of the map a fine, irregular mesh that sets off the denser town.
