El mapa
Olhão Map Poster & Print
Olhão sits on the eastern Algarve coast, facing not the open Atlantic but the Ria Formosa, a sheltered lagoon of marshes, sandbanks and winding channels. On a map, the waterfront is the defining line: a long promenade and harbour, with the lagoon beyond breaking into intricate shapes before the barrier islands of Armona and Culatra.
The old quarter behind the harbour is a knot of narrow lanes and small cube-shaped houses with flat roof terraces, a style often linked to the town's historic trade with North Africa. On the waterfront stand two red-brick market halls, one for fish and one for produce, and fishing remains central to the town's identity.
An Olhão map poster works almost as a study in two textures: the dense, irregular old town and the soft, flowing forms of the lagoon. Few coastal towns in Portugal have such a layered edge, and in black and white the channels and islands read like fine drawing.

Barrier islands
Long, narrow islands such as Armona and Culatra shelter the lagoon from the ocean, drawn as thin strips separating calm inner water from the open sea.
Cubist old quarter
Behind the harbour, the historic centre forms a tight labyrinth of short, angled lanes, noticeably denser than the newer grid-like streets further inland.

Per què Olhão
Un mapa amb significat
Olhão tends to stay with people: a summer of ferry rides to the islands, mornings at the market, evenings along the waterfront. A map poster keeps the whole setting in view, lagoon and lanes together, long after the trip is over.
Write your own title and subtitle, keep or edit the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Blueprint style suits the water especially well. Digital files are $9, with printed posters shipped from partners in over 30 countries.
