El mapa
Omdurman Map Poster & Print
Omdurman lies on the west bank of the Nile, just below the point where the White Nile and the Blue Nile meet. Across the water stand Khartoum and Khartoum North, and together the three form Sudan's largest urban area. On the map Omdurman is the broadest of them, a wide spread of low-rise neighbourhoods reaching west toward the edge of the desert.
Unlike the colonial grid of Khartoum, Omdurman grew in a looser way. It became the capital of the Mahdist state in the 1880s, and its older quarters keep irregular lanes and compounds gathered around the great market, one of the largest in the country. The domed Tomb of the Mahdi stands near the centre, rebuilt after its destruction in 1898.
Bridges carry roads across the White Nile to Khartoum and across the main Nile to Khartoum North, tying the three cities into one shape. An Omdurman map poster centres on this meeting of land and water: the long riverbank, the curve of the confluence and the dense pattern of the old town spreading out behind it.

Old market quarter
Around the central market, narrow lanes and closely packed compounds create a dense, irregular texture that contrasts with the straighter planning across the river.
Nile bridges
Road bridges reach east toward Khartoum and Khartoum North, drawn as short, firm lines across the water that link the three parts of the capital region.

Per què Omdurman
Un mapa amb significat
Many people from Omdurman now live far from it, and a map of the old neighbourhoods and the riverbank can hold a great deal of memory. It is a quiet way to keep a family home, a school or a street in view.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be changed, so the poster may carry a family name, a district or a year that matters. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as HD files or a printed poster with an optional frame.
