Orient Heights sits at the northern end of East Boston, on a hill that rises above the flat, reclaimed land around it. On a map its streets curve and switch back to follow the slope, which sets them apart from the straighter blocks further south. Water is never far away. Belle Isle Marsh lies to the north and Boston Harbor to the south and east.
The neighbourhood is known for its hilltop views, and for the shrine of the Madonna, Queen of the Universe, whose statue looks out from the summit over the harbour and the city skyline. Below the hill, Constitution Beach stretches along the shore facing the airport, and the Blue Line's Orient Heights station connects the area to downtown.
An Orient Heights map poster shows an unusual meeting of land types. Airport and harbour edge
Logan's long runways and Constitution Beach line the southern side of the neighbourhood, giving the poster strong straight lines and a clean shoreline.
