Oued Lill, also written Oued Ellil, lies in Manouba governorate on the western side of greater Tunis. It sits on flat, fertile land that has long been farmed, and over recent decades housing has spread across much of it. From above, the town is a mix of dense neighbourhoods, remaining orchards and fields, and roads leading east into the capital and west into the countryside.
The street pattern tells the story of this growth. Older lanes near the centre are short and irregular, while newer districts follow straighter plots laid out over former agricultural parcels. The result is a patchwork, with blocks of different sizes and orientations meeting along the main roads, an arrangement typical of the expanding edges of North African capitals.
