Phu Khiao is a district town in Chaiyaphum province, in the northeastern region of Thailand known as Isan. The land here is the broad Khorat Plateau, so the map has almost no relief. What it does have is pattern. There is a small, dense grid of shophouse streets at the centre, main roads leading out toward neighbouring districts, and beyond them a patchwork of fields that reaches the edge of the frame.
The name means green mountain in Thai, a nod to the forested uplands of the wider area, which give their name to a large wildlife sanctuary in the province. The town itself is agricultural and practical. Rice, sugarcane and cassava are grown around it, and irrigation ponds and small reservoirs appear as bright shapes among the field boundaries.
A Phu Khiao map poster is mostly about texture. The dense lines of the town centre fade into the loose geometry of farm tracks and canals, and every small pond becomes a clean white shape. It is a quiet portrait of rural Isan, where towns are compact and the countryside takes up most of the view.

Water storage is essential on the plateau. Rounded and rectangular ponds are scattered across the farmland and stand out clearly in black and white.
Field patchwork
Paddy boundaries and farm tracks cover the land around the town in a fine, irregular mesh. This gives the poster its graphic, almost woven surface.
