Dense block pattern
Small blocks and narrow streets fill the neighbourhood almost completely, giving the map a rich, even texture typical of Thessaloniki's suburbs.

El mapa
Políchni Map Poster & Print
Políchni lies on the northwestern side of Thessaloniki, in the municipality of Pavlos Melas, part of the continuous urban area that surrounds Greece's second city. On the map, it is a tightly packed neighbourhood of short streets and small blocks, laid out on rising ground. The lower streets merge into the rest of the city, while the upper ones gradually give way to more open, hilly terrain.
Like many of Thessaloniki's western districts, Políchni grew quickly in the twentieth century as people arrived from other parts of Greece and the city expanded up its surrounding slopes. The result is a dense, practical street pattern, with roads that bend to follow the hills rather than running in long straight lines.
A Políchni map poster captures that very Greek urban density: blocks packed closely together, narrow streets turning sharply, and a clear edge where the city meets the hills. In black and white, the fine mesh of streets becomes almost textile-like. Seen at a larger scale, it also shows how the neighbourhood is part of Thessaloniki's broader amphitheatre of hills facing the Thermaic Gulf.

Hillside streets
On the higher ground, roads bend and zigzag to follow the slopes, breaking the regularity of the lower blocks.
City edge
The upper edge of the built-up area meets open hills, creating a clear boundary between the dense suburb and the landscape beyond.
