Potsdam Map Poster
Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg, sits just southwest of Berlin, and the map shows how much of it is water. The Havel widens into a chain of lakes around the city, leaving the centre on land framed by channels and shorelines. Large landscaped parks spread across the north and west, and the baroque centre fills the space between them.
Potsdam was the residence of the Prussian kings, and its palaces and gardens, including Sanssouci, form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Glienicke Bridge, where East and West exchanged captured agents during the Cold War, connects the city to Berlin. Babelsberg, in the east of the city, is home to one of the oldest large film studios in the world.

West of the centre, the long main avenue and the garden paths of Sanssouci form a delicate network, clearly distinct from the surrounding streets.
Glienicke Bridge
At the eastern edge, the bridge crosses the Havel toward Berlin, a small line on the map with a large place in Cold War history.
