International border
The boundary with the Gaza Strip runs along the town's north-eastern edge, and on the map it appears as a hard line dividing two street networks that once formed one town.

El mapa
Rafaḩ Map Poster & Print
Rafaḩ lies at the north-eastern corner of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, in North Sinai Governorate, a few kilometres inland from the Mediterranean. The town stands on the international border with the Gaza Strip, and its map is shaped by that line: streets and roads run up to a boundary that divides what was historically a single town into Egyptian and Palestinian halves.
The division dates from 1982, when the border was drawn through the settlement after Israel's withdrawal from Sinai. The Rafah crossing, the main passage between Gaza and Egypt, lies at the edge of town. In later years the area was heavily affected by security operations, and large parts of the built-up area near the border were cleared.
A Rafaḩ map poster records the town as it appears in current map data, with its roads, the coastal plain and the border itself. For people with family ties here, a map can hold a place that is difficult to visit, rendered with the restraint that black lines on white allow.

Mediterranean coast
The shoreline lies a short distance to the north, and a wider framing brings in the straight, sandy coast that runs along the northern edge of Sinai.
Coastal road
The main road across northern Sinai reaches Rafaḩ from El Arish to the west, drawing a long line that ties this far corner to the rest of Egypt.

Per què Rafaḩ
Un mapa amb significat
Rafaḩ is not an ordinary place to put on a wall, and people who choose it usually have a reason: family, origin, or a period of life spent in North Sinai. A map offers a way to keep that place present in a calm and respectful form.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be set to a name, a year or a few words of remembrance, and the map can be shown in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A free 900 px preview shows the result before purchase.
