Roanoke River
The river runs along the southern side of the city in gentle curves, with parkland and greenway along parts of its banks. It sets the direction of everything else on the map.

El mapa
Salem Map Poster & Print
Salem is an independent city in western Virginia, sharing the Roanoke Valley with its larger neighbour, Roanoke. The Roanoke River runs along the southern side of the city, and the main street grid lies parallel to it. The city stretches east to west along the valley floor, with wooded Appalachian ridges rising on either side.
Main Street forms the historic spine. Older blocks line it near the county courthouse and Roanoke College, whose campus sits close to downtown. Interstate 81 passes along the northern edge, and rail lines follow the river. The map has a clear layered structure of river, rail, streets and highway, all running in the same direction through the valley.
Salem has long hosted NCAA Division III championships, and for a quarter of a century it was home to the Stagg Bowl, the national football final. A Salem map poster brings the city down to its geography: a narrow valley town, carefully ordered along its river and framed by the mountains that shape daily life here.

Roanoke College campus
Founded in the nineteenth century, the college occupies a group of blocks near downtown. Its quad and buildings form a distinct, open pattern within the street grid.
I-81 corridor
The interstate traces the northern edge of the city with long sweeping curves and interchanges. On the page it forms a clean boundary against the ridge beyond.
